Call for Short Plays
Space 55 will be producing a run of short plays in spring 2017 (March 17th-April 2nd) as a mainstage production. We are currently looking for short plays by Arizona authors for this production. These will NOT be staged readings: These will be fully realized theatrical productions performed on a shared set, with props and costumes and brought to life by a well-rehearsed cast.
DEADLINE: Submissions must be received by 5pm on Monday, January 9th. All authors whose work has been selected for the production shall receive notification of acceptance by February 1st.
MAX PAGE COUNT: Short plays should be no longer than 15 pages MAX. There is no minimum page count. We’d be just as happy to put on a 1 page monologue as a 15 page one act. Quality trumps quantity every time.
GENRE/CONTENT: There are no restrictions in terms of genre and content. Send us musicals, sci-fi, modern Greek tragedy, horror, puppet shows, spoken word group pieces- We don’t care what it is so long as it is GOOD. These are shows that will be produced for an adult audience, so pieces with profanity and/or adult content are fine.
HOW TO SUBMIT: Email all submissions (You may submit multiple scripts, but please submit them ALL in ONE email) to email@example.com. Put SHORT PLAY__Your Name in the subject line (ex: SHORT PLAY__Mike Pence’s Taint).
WILL YOU GET PAID? Unfortunately, no. Nobody is getting paid (that includes the cast, directors, and producers of this show). Welcome to shoestring theater, folks.
SO WHY SHOULD YOU SUBMIT? Because you want to see your work produced on an actual stage by a talented ensemble of actors and directors. Because we’ll do everything we can to ensure that your vision comes alive onstage, and try to involve you in the process as much as you want to be involved.
We look forward to hearing from you fine writerly folks!
